I don’t know I would hold my breath either, but you did the right thing by filing the complaint… that’s the only way the fools get weeded out of the system…
What some people don’t know is ABC motor club (we can call them ABC because it refers to all of them) has many different contracts with towing services of all sizes… some are contracted for heavy and light towing, while others are only capable of and contracted for light towing only… there will also be some for contracted for only tire repair, or only lockout and battery jumping… some may contract for all…. I am sure there are some I can’t even think of but it doesn’t end there ether… depending on what and the variety of services the rates are also negotiated… complicated yes, higher risk of a mistake yes, but still a good thing… you don’t want a triaxle Pete pulling in your driveway to jump start your 1960 Corvair…
but when I needed a jump start, I was surprised to see this little Ford Transit show up to… this little truck was well equipped for the job with everything from long jumper cables, 2 jump boxes in a rack always charged, a gas powered generator and air compressor, an assortment of new batteries, a complete set of lock-out tools, tire tools, jacks and jack stands…
I am surprised the little truck could move but the guy said he can get to many places much faster and take care of most problems… sure there was the chance the jump didn’t work and a tow was required costing more time in the end… but everything went smooth as silk… to be profitable and provide a reasonably good service and a reasonable price this really works…
They also have contracts with tow operators that refuse to provide their services at the discounted rate, some not even the commercial rate… ya they could be closer but assuradely they will only be called when other possibilities are exhausted…
Another quark in the grand scheme of things… is these tow operators may have contracts with state and/or local governments and police with a high priority to them… one of these guys might be almost to your aid and be diverted to their priority commitments… should happen often, but it happens enough… one thing is for sure… when it happens the rants will be pasted all over the internet…
In short, none of these motor clubs offer utopia,
but I believe they do their best to offer the best service they can, and they can be worth their weight in gold when they are needed… so I won’t travel without one… we pick our own poison… I just wish more would do it better informed first…
