Most trucks are not used by their owners for heavy hauling or towing. Check out the special 4x4 1/2 ton pickups which come with tires with a load rating of 2200 lbs. or less. The people at the car companies know that the softness of the ride is very important even with people buying trucks (common complaint of new heavy duty truck owners is the ride).
Goodyear Wranglers are excellent tires and I have put more than 50,000 miles on each set on light duty trucks on and off the road.
From your problems with the ride you might want to replace the factory shocks with some Bilsteins while you are at it.
