Great desert vista....

We have been going there for the last 4 years on Thanxgiving and also other times threw out the year. It is one of the nicest parks we have ever been at.

We volunteered at that gorgeous park. Yes, there is unlimited hiking in and surrounding that park as the surroundings is a national forest. It was always filled from Dec to April. Feb/March is wildflower season and the hills are covered with blooms.

It's hard to believe that not long ago the park and others in AZ were closed down because of state funding. Hopefully, it never happens again.

Agree ...the east side non electric have some of the most
spectacular vistas. I have a couple more visits over the
next two months... should see if the non-electrics have
opened up. (but probably smarter to wait on Spring). It does
appear that the Park still has room to expand ... must be a
seasonal money maker for the State Park system as it has
consistently run at close to 100 % occupancy with frequent use
of the overflow parking. Lots of out-of-state-plates.

Charles, I've not driven the new loop yet but it is nice to see the expanded capacity for this very popular SP. Not surprised to hear that people have trouble parking their larger rigs. :R

For some folks unless it is a straight pull through with wide access roads parking is a major challenge but then Apache junction is full of RV Parks. :B Most of the pull throughs on the east side (non electric), are pretty large and will accommodate larger fivers and Class A's.

We observed (in the new loop) a Canadian visitor attempting
to park a Mobile Suites "D" MH (guess 35'-38 ft.) in one of
the back in sites (rear facing the mountain)... attempted from
both directions on the loop... could not make the turn without
4 wheeling in the desert (don't forget lots of cholla). After
numerous attempts gave up. Just did not have the room to
make the turns necessary... pad was big enough ... access
was the limiting factor.

..it appears to me that even some of the pull thru "bends" would be
tight fit for greater then mid-30's length rigs. Just my opinion.

The hiking at Lost Dutchman is virtually unlimited. Numerous trails either originate at the park or cross through it. They recently completed an entire new loop on the lower (west), side expanding capacity. Some of our favorite sites are the non electric up on the hill, spectacular views in almost every direction. Many are pull throughs that will handle large rigs but that can mean lots of generator noise.

I think the State Park folks would be more knowledgeable to provide your answer as to hikes...there are some privately owned land issues in play , as well as fencing off of restricted areas. That having been typed ..the park sure does get a large amount of "day use " hiking.

re: The Artic Fox propane use for heating... we set the Coleman Mach thermostat at 65-68 (auto) and just bundled up ... it was very comfortable...two teenagers kicked off the covers at night. Skylights iced over... but interior windows did not fog up. Don't tell my bride, but I cracked open the small window near the head of the bed all night long. In eight days and nights of continuous use I consumed about 3/4 of one of the large propane cylinders. Comfortable, but not a sweat lodge. Our last night , the water in the hose leading up to the 5ver froze (from spigot to RV), so, it was chilly outside...(mid-to-high-20's). We were very pleased with the Artic Fox interior temperature control...although, to be honest, we both see a digital thermostat in our future.

The total acreage of the Lost Dutchman State Park is pretty low ... is there really much to it and can folks hike out of the park and into those mountains to get some room around them?

About how much did you have to run the furnace at night in your Artic Fox?
