I've often wondered why, particularly on high-end coaches, there is still very little systems integration in motorhome design. Why are there three separate electrical systems with two independent battery banks, different engines for the prime mover and the generator, separate water heating and house heating systems, etc? Why must we remember to lower the TV antenna before driving off, rather than have it lower itself when one starts up and gets ready to leave?
I'd like to see someone at least try to make an all-electric coach with a hybrid drivetrain, where the same battery bank is used for both the driving and the house power. If the battery got low, the main engine could start up to recharge it (no need for a separate generator). If the battery bank were large enough, one could travel at least a small distance without the engine running, which would be appreciated by other campers when one needs to arrive late or depart early.
And by the way, my tank level sensors seem to work pretty well most of the time.
