We have two RVs with Sidekicks. Both RVs came with them. I've used it under the awning on both. On the MH, it sits right under the window by the dinette. It can get smokey inside if the window is left open and the grill is smoking a lot, but the smoke detector has never gone off. On the HTT, smoke hasn't gotten inside as the nearest window is small and off the side of the grill.
Only once did I get little black grease blobs on the side of the MH when I cleaned off the grill. They came off easily enough. To avoid that, I just let the grease burn off the grate before scraping the grill grate.
That being said, I wouldn't buy one if I had to replace the grill. I love the convenience of hooking into the RV's propane supply, but for the money, there are a lot better grills out there.
