GRUMPY OR WHAT?

As foster parents we camp more than most. We love introduceing kids to camping, fishing, kayaking and the great outdoors. I understand people camp for different reasons with different perpectives. So often in the evenings we will sit at the table and play a board game or tell camp fire stories. Seems more this year we end up camping near someone who wants to play loud music or watch a movie outside with speakers super loud with no regard for others even way after quiet time. I aproach politely and does no good. Can't debate with drunks. This is super upsetting to kids who came out of drug and or alcohol abussive homes. It's just getting old. May put away the camper until after labor day. Any ideas on what can be done? Makes me sad more than grumpy

Don't approach . . . Call the office and tell them that the people on site # whatever are getting loud, drunk and obnoxious and you can hear them 6 sites away . . . even if you are next to them.
  • We all have experienced this to a degree, I suppose.
The RVParks we visit often are obviously not allowing these types of personalities.
In Michigan, a few miles away, from one of our favorites, we stayed one night. It was a county park, I think Most county parks won't allow nonsense but at that one, kids were racing at high speeds around the park, and seemed every camper was having a beer bash and the racket from boo boxes? or stereos was loud enough to keep the crows out of the surrounding corn fields.
We consult with Park a, they don't fix we leave, and cross them off the book.
  • Find a campground that's less conducive for younger folks that draws the "party crowd". I'm sure in Oregon there are State Parks and private campgrounds that are not high-hitters or the popular places near the active go-getters places, like popular beaches, shopping malls, amusement parks, or places some segments of society like to go to just get drunk.

If you are camping for camping sake, then stay away from holiday camping too. If you find the campgrounds that are a bit more less-popular, and not so conducive to the wild crowd, you'll have a much more pleasant experience.

We quit going to specific locations for this very reason. The wild bunch just doesn't respect anything. They are there to drink and they think because they pay for a rental site for a night, it entitles them to act as stupid as they want. (and they do). Stay away from these places, or go camping in the middle of the week when things are quieter.

Also, seek out a campground that has a history with Bad A$$ enforcement of the rules. They ARE out there!

But don't give up! Just look elsewhere. There ARE still lots of great campsites in your area, I'm sure.
  • Here in Wa.s State, if you can hear the sounds from another site then legally they're too loud.
  • IMHO this sort of thing is worse at "RV parks" rather than state park and national park campgrounds. If possible, pick public locations in more rustic areas, and avoid holiday weekends.
  • I do not know where you are camping but all of the State Parks we visit strictly enforce sound control and quite hours.
  • Take pictures of vehicles, licence plates, people if you can zoom in and get clear shots. Take a video with the sound of the music and a shot of the time.

Put the phone away safely, that's your insurance if things go sour. Report to authorities.
  • We don't have the kids, but have experienced the "LOUD". Especially bad on a big sports night.
