One thing I have to question and this what do OVER 90% of those taking the tests HAVE to get a cpap machine??? Do they really need one or is the medical profession just making money on something that we ourselves can not prove one way or another?
Most of the people getting a sleep study are there because they or their doctor believe they may have sleep apnea due to certain physical attributes, symptoms, or health issues. They then have the study, and shouldn't be surprised when they are told they do have sleep apnea. I don't know where your 90% figure comes from, but I wouldn't doubt that the percentage of positive tests are fairly high. It's very easy to diagnose sleep apnea, the instruments and technology they use are very accurate.
Sleep apnea can significantly shorten your life. If you are diagnosed with it, get and USE a CPAP. I'll bet at least a third of those who are diagnosed and get a CPAP do not use it regularly. It takes some getting used to, but you do get used to it.
