Here is a lamp post / flag holder that my husband made for me. The post is made with 3/4" PVC and the base is an umbrella holder. The arm with the license plates is 1/2" PVC and the arm that holds the flag is a wood dowel. The flag wouldn't fit over the PVC so we had to use the dowel. The unit is painted with special paint for plastic. Any easy way to personalize out space without the hassle of trying to get something in the ground.
