Our TH has chip-board foundations for master and loft beds - not something I wanted to drag a mattress over for fear it would wear out that much quicker.
For the master bed I covered the chip-board with the cheapest self-sticking floor tiles I could find. Cost me maybe $30. Trim as needed with a razor blade knife*. The tile looks shiny but we've never had any problem with the mattress slipping even when traveling.
For the loft bed I used two panels of the cheapest wall paneling I could find, cutting them so each covers about half the chip-board. They're not glued/nailed/stapled down, the mattress is all that's needed to keep them in place. Don't be too concerned about getting a near-perfect fit, an inch or two gap isn't going to hurt anything. (I tried for a fit with no more than a 1/8" gap all around but quickly found out the walls aren't even close to being square!) Cost me maybe $20.
* Razor blade knife... A few years ago some box store (WalMart, Target, Lowes, ?) had inexpensive, made-in-China (doesn't anybody else make anything anymore?) sets of a razor blade knife and multi-tool with clip-on carrying case on sale for $12-15. I got one on impulse and was amazed at the apparent quality (outstanding fit & finish and no failures or disappointments in my initial testing). So I bought a bunch of them, have at least one in every barn and shed, couple in the house, one in every vehicle (ATVs, MCs & tractor included), two in the TH, and gave one to each of the kids. Useful doesn't begin to describe.
