Early posts about using hospital shoe covers when refueling is a great tip. They're also useful for those of us too squeamish to walk bare/sock foot thru airport security check (have had TSA tell me to take off those paper shoes only a couple of times).
Some store on line sells waterproof semi-disposable shoe protectors, cost like $5 for a box of 100 (I bought a box 10-12 years ago and it's still "full"). Semi-disposable because if you don't wear/cut a hole in them you can rinse them off and use them again. We keep at least two pairs in our cars & TV, and a bunch in the RV.
