Old (washed of course) socks are one of the most useful things to have around, especially the DW's ankle-highs. Somebody even wrote a book about it (available on Amazon?). A glass stuffed into one is pretty well protected. Makes a decent small extension cord holder. When working around the ranch I always have a bottle or two of water with me and a sock over the bottle helps keeps it cool; and relatively clean when mowing. Sock uses are virtually limitless. Impromptu hand puppets for storytelling (the grandkids love making their own and making up their own stories and playing hand puppet make-believe). Don't waste your money, make your own beanbag toss (pea gravel makes a pretty good filling).
