Many campers lug around 5 gal propane tanks for their BBQ. Others use those green bottles which seem to always run out of propane when your steak is half done. To make this all easier, plumb a inlet from your RV propane tank to the outside of the RV by the door. Then all you do is plug your BBQ into the inlet and you have propane without the hassle.
We carry an 20# cylider just for that purpose. Having a toyhauler we've got plenty of storage space, even on the rare occasions we carry toys. The 20#er fits perfectly inside a plastic 4 gallon milk jug crate. For additional stability I bolted the milk crate to a 3' square piece of 3/8" plywood.
Those small 1G cylinders would work well, too, with more limited storage space.
Or, split the difference with a 1 gallon (5 pound) propane tank. I have 2 of them.
