Hanging chairs from ladder blocking license plate

I want to hang some chairs from our ladder on the back of our class C but when I do it blocks the view of the license plate. Has anyone had any problems with this with the police?

  • You will find that driving any vehicle with an obscured license plate is likely to get the attention of every law officer you pass who isn't on a Mission From God to go get donuts. I know it is illegal in every state in the union. For some reason, lawmakers wanted to be sure the identifier they made you wear, can be seen and reported at all times.
  • Don't have that problem, my plate is on the left side, ladder is on the right, is there a way to mount your license plate bracket on the opposite side?
  • I was able to find a license plate bracket that mounts in a 2-inch hitch receiver. Problem solved.

  • I don't think that could be answered. In NY your plate must be legible. We have random road blocks or "Enforcement Campaigns", they usually will ticket for any infraction then. Just going down the road, probably just depends on karma.

  • It doesn't matter what anyone else has had said to them, or not said...obscuring the license is not legal.

Perhaps figure out a way to mount the plate on the chair legs.
