Harbor Freight Tailgator generator review

Wal-Mart is one of our largest employers. Do we want them to go out of business?

If we stop buying from China, Walmart will be out of business tomorrow!

I was in our local HF yesterday. They have stacks of the 900W 2 stroke Tailgators for $125

Home Depot has a 900w generator for about $134. Still a cheap alternative.

Got an email back from HF.

They are discontinuing that puppy and it will only be available in stores until extinct. :(

And yep Gde, I have a floor jack I bought off the Cummins truck eons ago. ;)

Along with no TV, laptop, desktop, stereo, and many "supposed" brand names of/for appliances that have been around for many years.

All major tire brands (including Michelin) have mfg facilities in China.
Keep your eye on the tire codes - what *was* mfg in the US - may change overnight.

In re: The HF two-stroke gen - gone away. Prob due to no longer EPA compliant. Kinda like the "old style" 5gal Jerry cans and "real" pour spouts....:(

friend has one and uses for power outages...

2 stroke motor needs 2 stroke mix.
For $90 it is hard to beat. He uses it all night and day to power refrigerator. More than $90 of food in fridge so it pays for itself with one long power outage.

I do not think this is an inverter gen, so power output is rpm related, so not for every appliance. Friges might not care.

This is a great gen to have for emergency, but not for regular camping since a nice inverter gen is only $600 or so

I am guessing HF has trimmed out a lot of stuff off the website to items they want to push and or ship for some reason..

Too bad, often when looking for a tool that I need right now, I take a look at their website to see what they have rather than driving to the store to save a 1 hr round trip for nothing..

I remember a time when HF actually produced a real paper catalog that came in the mail.. Northern Tool used to do the same thing..

Heck we used to have traveling tool sales from semi truck trailers that would come through town several times a yr.. I called them "Tool Gypsies".. I remember one called "Cummins Tools" and another "Homier Tool Distribution"..

And Jerry, yeah I was funning. Sorry for thinking most folks are kinda back woodsey like me.

I've had the little HF 800/900 two stroke generator for at least five years. I paid around $70 for the little workhorse. It really is an impressive machine. You wouldn't believe all the things I've run from it.
