Harvest Host and the eclipse...

Just wanted to share a recent experience. I really, really, really wanted to go see the eclipse and thought I had successfully arranged a place to stay more than once, but each time it fell through.

After another forum member shared about Harvest Host, I decided to join for a year. Less than 48 hours after signing up, I received an email advertising a member host which happened to be right on the totality line, and was offering dry camping, along with various entertainment for the weekend leading up to the event.

I got my spot!

  • Shoshoni is further than we were hoping to go but I wanted to check out what is available. Unsurprisingly the BLM has an eclipse page https://www.blm.gov/solareclipse and all their reservable sites are booked. Anything else is first-come-first-serve and I wouldn't be surprised if your area was packed well before eclipse time. Also, if they have maps of the area, I couldn't find them (and that DID surprise me).
  • We love Harvest Hosts. We joined about a year ago, not sure whether it would work for us. We've used it several times, and each time has been a unique and fun experience. Glad you joined, and glad it will work out for you!

  • As luck would have it, we live in the path of the eclipse. If you are coming to, or in Wyoming for the eclipse, there is a lot of BLM land you could dry cam on around Shoshoni, WY.
  • What will you do if the moon gets stuck in front of the sun and it doesn't get light again?
Are you prepared to drive home in the dark? :B

I wanted to see the eclipse but, the kids start school on the 23rd. That's cutting it too close for us.

Enjoy, it should be pretty cool
