Has anyone painted their rv or replaced decals?

I repainted the front and back of our aluminum sided fiver and replaced all the graphics on all sides.
Lot of work...

No one cared though.

Is it gelcoat all over or is it the finish where you can still see the chop strand in the panels?

If the chopstrand type no amount of waxing will give a gloss. Stuff like formula 303 will rejuvenate it.

If gelcoat it should not be too bad provided it has not spent all of its time in the blistering sun & never been waxed. In any case treat it like a boat. You might get away with something as mild as a cleaner wax like 3M marine cleaner wax followed by a pure wax or sealant type for a long lasting shine. If chalking is bad there are various grades of compounds. Be careful. Use the minimal agressiveness compound to get the results needed. RV gelcoats tend to be very thin.

I'd love to paint mine but to do it right would be cost prohibitive. Currently, like so many, it is a brilliant white. A huge box freezer with wheels. Given wads of money I'd have it redone in something off white, using a marine epoxy paint like Awlgrip, painted graphics (nothing too wild) & a couple coats of clearcoat over everything.

I'll keep dreaming. Rig is 6 years old, gelcoat in excellent shape, waxed every year before season with Mequires Flagship & spends 7 months indoors.

The only thing I can see happening as long as the gelcoat is in good shape is replacing decals, this time with a better quality marine grade material. RV builders use stuff as cheap as they can find. It takes the same labour to apply cheap material as good stuff. Might as well get the good stuff & have it last longer.

Last spring I removed the ratty, dated looking decals on my 97 Coachmen, going through a few of those drill mounted eraser type pads in the process. One of these days my son is going to paint the cab and the MH. I will either buy, or have him paint some of those swirly type decals on the MH. I already bought 4 new Coachmen decals for the front, rear and sides. It will be able to pass for a 2007 or 2008 when he's through.

I bought a used on and taking delivery on Sunday but I really won't that new look.Its a 2009 so it's in pretty good shape but the decals gotta go and it needs the shine back.

We had a 1997 Holiday TT that sat in the Florida sun 8 months a year... I could not find the stripes anywhere so my buddy that is in auto body matched the colors. He sprayed the stripes and clear coated over the stripes after.. Looked brand new,.. Joe

He just called them and said the camper looked good but the decals were done. They offered to send out new ones and they did for free.

I was talking to a body shop that mostly repair rv damage. He had a Carriage setting there. The owner wanted all the decals gone and then paint. He wanted to get rid of all decals. I really think that is a good idea. This shop does excellant work.

If your rig has really bad oxidation, get on the internet look up a product called "Buff Magic". This stuff really, really works. If got an old 2000 Damon, and the finish has alway been kind of dull no matter what I applied to the finish. This product is for de-oxidating fiberglass boats.

Nu-Finish will buff her back into shape! You may have to do it twice but it's good stuff.
