Made ours from thin wall PVC and EMT.
My generator exhaust is also under slide so I made a short extension from a piece of EMT and coupler. With slide in, I leave extension off. With slide out, use extension and it work perfect.
Instead of mounting hooks into side of camper, I run a length of small diameter rope and 2 bungee cords to the slide awning arms.
As stated, hey work great for diverting exhaust.
