Hauling kayaks

We want to take our two kayaks with us sometimes. Does anyone have an opinion on the best racks to get to attach to the cross roof racks on our CRV? Will there be much turbulence behind the MH to be concerned with? All opinions will be welcome. Thank you
  • I recommend you check out your local kayak retailer. He is going to have more experience with what works and doesn't work than anyone else out there.
  • I have the Thule 'Glide & Set' system. No turbulence from the MH at all that I can see.
  • Check out the Yakima or Thule websites. Either should provide you with quality products that fit well.

You also got some good advice about the front and rear tie-downs. I know a guy who was taking 3 kayaks down the interstate in FL and his factory roof rack detached. He was NOT using tie-downs and the whole assembly ended up in the median. Fortunately nobody was hurt and he only broke one kayak beyond repair but it could've been avoided with tie-downs.
  • Yakama racks -You can go on their site and find which ones will fit your car, or call them. they are expensive, but well worth it.
Make sure to use cam-lock buckle straps double looped over the bars, (not ratchet straps)
Also make sure to use front and rear tiedowns.
