I work for an RV dealer and meet lots of drivers bringing us RV's (I work in Transportation and also am a CDL driver). Most all are from Indiana Transport. Most are driving newer trucks and seem to be making a living. Some don't deadhead and get deliveries from locations nearby. Don't forget the motorhome delivery drivers with their own cars as toads.
As far as a CDL, the Feds don't require a CDL for drivers if the truck and trailer, combined, weigh less than 26,000 pounds. That is not the CGWR but the actual weight of the units as towed from the factory. RIVA contacted the FEDS a year ago and got a CGWR waiver which allows for towing of actual weights of 26,000 or less and not the combined GVWR of both units. It is a 5 year waiver.
