Power would have to be metered in the campsites and there would probably be some incentive for camp grounds to eventually add some 100 amp 240 volt sites.
"Dream On" - Steven Tyler / Aerosmith, 1973, A really good song! :B
Where are you guys finding campgrounds with fuelling for gas and diesel units? We prefer state or federal CG, but the commercial places we've used didn't have them either. ;)
Let's see...umm, Pioneer RV park in Whitehorse, Yukon; Riverview RV park in North Pole, Alaska; and...well, offhand that's about it that I can think of. Your point is well-taken.
The difference with electric, of course, is that it's available in many campgrounds already, but in more limited form. Just as some few people think that the presence of campground Wi-Fi means they should be permitted to download multiple high-def movies using it, so I suspect a few EV owners would think they could use the full 50A power available from their electric connection 24/7 to recharge their vehicle and would be rather upset if denied permission or charged extra for that.
Yah. I see what you are saying and yes people can be unreasonable. But campgrounds are already getting used to dealing with EVers and some have added themselves as possible charge points to EV charging apps. More common in areas where the charge network is not built out yet. They usually have a flat rate posted or worked out. We haven’t used this kind of thing yet but we always carry an EVSE in the car so in a pinch we could get a level two charge. We keep adapters in the car so we can connect to the various types of 240 volt plugs and even one that allows to charge at TESLA destination chargers. Always good to be prepared. We have charged a few times overnight in campgrounds we were staying at overnight with the motorhome. We always ask permission and offer to pay extra although no one has taken our money yet. (It’s a little car).
