Heading to Florida from Atlantic Canada in November

I am planning to winter in Florida this year (2014 - 2015). Our travelling companions may be delayed until January 2015. As this is our 1st time driving to Florida in our Class A, I am not keen on going in January due to uncertain weather conditions, nor am I keen on taking on this trip on our own. I am looking for someone who will be travelling to Florida in mid to late November that we could caravan with.
  • They say cooler and wetter this winter in Florida.
Not as cool as -35C and not a wet as 6 feet deep of snow. The weather liars here today showed we have snow on the ground (lake effect) east of us.
The snow hill from last winter hasn't melted yet due to cool summer.
I'm out of here in 2 weeks to "frosty" Florida.
  • Make sure you leave early-I have heard it may be a bad winter this year down here. We may get some frost. When we get frost you are stuck indoors until about 8:00am waiting for it to melt.
  • I can see why you would be nervous, but do you have a good raodside assistance plan? Do you have the ability to seek out places to stop while underway? It sounds like an adventure where the pros outweigh the possibility of things going wrong. I would not start out in January either. I say go for it!
  • I don't think I would like the caravan idea much. When we are ready to stop driving for the day I don't want to prevent the other driver from going on. That would work both ways.

We plan to take our time traveling and stopping whenever we feel like it. We might see something off the highway we might want to stop and look at. Did I say I love outlet stores and antique shops?

What about when you stop for the night and decide when you get up in the morning that you like that particular facility and would like to stay an extra day?

The term 'Caravan' means being on some sort of schedule to me in traveling.
  • Should be no worries if you plan well.
Keep an eye on the weather a wait till you have at least two days without rain or snow.
Your first night on the road could be in a motel. After that you should be all right for parks.
Now is the time to start researching available campgrounds for the first few days.
  • Don't look at it as a trip to Florida. Break it down to daily travels.
  • How much experience travelling do you have in your Class A. We leave out of Mid Canada in Oct to beat any weather as it comes early over here. We go to Fla as well. We have our route and CG's down so there are no surprises. Also have back ups if weather becomes and issue.
We go alone. If your concerned with a route to take go the the roads and routes and ask for info. Cg's etc in Campgrounds also. RV park reviews etc give you lots of choices as well as other sites.
Do what is comfortable for you.
