lbrjet,
Nope, not still working by a long shot. Totally retired over 10 years now and 72 years old as is my wife. The bogus ACA does not and will not affect me/us hardly at all but it sure does our kids, friends, and basically all of our family members who are under 40 years old.
How? Much higher monthly premium costs. Double and triple the deductible amoumts for each insured. Considerably higher co-pay on prescriptions. 3 have had their full time hours reduced to 29 hrs per week total so they are now not considered to be full time and are exempt from employer mandated insurance. 2 of their employers have totally dropped all employer furnished health insurance plans. 6 that I know of had their portion of employee contribution for their employer insurance increased drastically and 2 of them had it more than double. Try these now in force senarios with a max of 29 hours of work per week which menas 29 hours of pay to begin with. That's only 70% of the income they had coming in back in Dec 2013. Now add in the very high deductibles when having kids who have accidents and childhood sicknesses. Increased insurance co-pays and prescription co-pays and tell me where the money is going to come from? A lot more pain if I went into details.
Bear in mind that when working fulltime at 40 hrs per week they also were able to work overtime. All overtime has also been eliminated as of Jan 1. 2014 as it would give the employee over 30 hrs and make them full time in the records and require the employer to carry insanely expensive health care insurance or close the business and some are cutting their future losses. Please tell me how this is good and why any young healthy person would be so stupid as to sign up for such stupidity?
Also remember that many doctors and hospitals are refusing to accept patients with ACA and it's been on the news for months now. Also that nearly half of the insurance companies are not writing any health policies in several states and many areas within a state.
You may have gained some in costs but others are paying dearly for your gain and without the young healthy picking up the costs as is what's not happening, your lower cost are very tempory and be prepared for a 440 volt like shock when the ACA costs will have to double or triple with drastic cuts in coverages since it's the older less healty and/or medicare/medicaid who are the bulk of the actual signups. Like I said: Stay tuned!
