heart breaking

here I am old in nature and not the best of health and trying to get ready to go camping. have been working on the readiness now for a week and seems not that close to being ready. I have so much to do yet and have done a lot already. unwinterizing, washing sheets loading the chairs in the truck, getting buckets ready for mushrooming and berry picking. hate to say this but reality is looking me in the face and she is telling me it may be time to sell the TT and cut back some. never thought I would say that. very sad and heart breaking since I have enjoyed camping so much over the 75 years. My body just gets tired too fast.

OLD GUY... I hear you man... I am 75 here and still doing things to my OFF-ROAD POPUP...

This is what SON-IN-LAWS are for you know... Then two of my kids got rid of their hubbies... One will still help but the other says he will but hasn't shown up yet haha... This is the one that has got every car/truck we gor rid of when getting something newer too haha... This is also the one that does large building contracts and the such for a living too...

I do ok until I have to get on the roof of the house or RV and my ham Radio farm...

I'm wanting to make my OFF-RoAD camper into a rolling POWER STATION on wheels. Already doing this when power goes off here at the house but wanted to make more plug and play so to speak hehe... Got open delivery order to all my friends arround here already especially the ones that owns golf carts... When one of thier deep cycle goes bad they replace all of the others with new one. I could live forever out that throw away pile haha...

Going to make a run to Westmoreland State Park soon where they have beautiful no hook-ups camping spots... This is my test facility for things with it being only some 30 miles away from here... Then I go up on the West VA/Virginia wooded state line and stay a couple of weeks doing the same thing. Thats some 200 miles from here

The only part of getting old I am finding out is I don't feel as safe anymore when camping by myself... I probably look like a real easy target to the thugs out there... Wish I had a big bad boy dog to take with me... Used to I never saw anyone in the woods but its not that way anymore around here...

Guess i could test it out and throw a rock into the woods and if no ones throws one back out at me then I am safe haha...

However, it does beat the alternative. :)

That is, without question, not always the case.

  • I totally understand. As I have gotten older I realized how much of my preparation came too close to my trips. I now make lists of things to do and schedule some of the events out in advance so I don't get stressed with last minute things.

Life is supposed to bring enjoyment and doing certain things that bring enjoyment also bring stress for us as we prepare for that. I am also realizing that some things are not that important and I can postpone some things to do while camping, like cleaning it and waxing it. ;)

If you feel that getting rid of it is the answer then by all means that is what you should do but if you enjoy this lifestyle then you can rethink your priorities. Sometimes certain things become a chore, losing passion for it may indicate a change of pace.

Good luck in your health as well.
  • Accept with grace the changes that life's cycles bring you.
You've done it several times in the past: infant, toddler, boyhood, teenager, young adult and so on. Each change brought new challenges and advantages so having lived to the mature age of 71 I'm confident you can do it again:).

As others have suggested break up trip planning and packing into smaller bites or fess up and let someone else help you.

Here's hoping you'll feel better in the reading.
  • Don't quit, just cut back some. Get your berries and mushrooms at the market and sit under the awning and relax more.
  • As said, start getting ready sooner so you can do it in smaller "bites". At 73, I've learned to plan things further out so I don't wear myself out rushing to get things done at the last minute. One of the reasons we switched from TT's to motorhomes years ago was for the ease of prepping before we leave, and the ease of setting up when we get there. Now we live nearly full time in the motorhome, so it's even easier to move from place to place. Of course that's not for everyone...
  • Oh man, that's not good. Maybe start getting ready a little sooner so you can take it slow??? Got anyone to help you?? We all know it takes longer to do things as we age....just not fun!! I hope you figure out how to make it work. :)
