Dutchmen, sometimes parents are harder to deal with than children. Maybe you and the Dr. can work out a deal, were you get her scheduled, but the Dr. and all involved give a date a week later than the real date. Then sneak in on her. Sounds like a tough old gal!!

Well we are going to make the leap to electric heat.

    RV Comfort Systems

Interesting. That seems like a good safe electric option. It solves the problem of uneven heat from space heaters, no bottles to lug, consistent digital thermostat control and far less fire danger of cheesy space heaters. I sleep through our furnace noise and part of that noise is the roar of the flame so it would seem that comfort systems would make the furnace quieter too.

Sorry to hear that. I can only cringe when I picture myself in 30 years at that age and I only have minor issues now.
  • Hey! True story! Those space heaters can be dangerous.... but not in the way you may think!

My mother is 93 years old, still lives alone and refuses to leave her house. To supplement her heat, she uses a couple of those electric oil filled space heaters. Never had a problem with them. Very reliable, very safe, no chance of fire, quiet, radiant heat. So??? what could possible go wrong?

How about a 93 year old, very stubborn woman, who decided she could navigate the house without her walker and then she stumbled into one of those heaters! AND IT WASN'T EVEN PLUGGED IN!

All was well until it fell over and landed on her big toe! Yup!

Well, that was about 4 weeks ago now. It crushed her toe, disintegrated her bone, and then it decayed because the bone was so old and brittle. Then an infection set it, and for the last 3 weeks, we've been trying to get her to surgery to have her toe removed! (Which ain't going well, because she keeps sabotaging the surgery appointments. Had her all ready for surgery twice now, and she creatively stopped taking her normal medications, so all the chemicals in her body are all screwed up. She doesn't want the surgery. Thus, no anesthesia, no surgery!) And she's happy about that, risking a complete bone infection that could spread through her entire body! (REALLY!)

Meanwhile, it cost my wife and me 2 weekends of no camping, and several vacation days from work now, and hours and hours at hospitals and surgery centers! ARRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!

Not only did that darn heater cost her! It cost us! And I don't even have one in my own house! The affect are FAR REACHING!

Be careful with them darn things folks!
