Years ago my grand father always said to me "watch out for the trolley cars," when ever I would leave his house. When he was a kid they were quite common were we lived. I think most were DC powered. Not sure why they fell out of favor. I did get to drive the GM EV about 15 years ago and it had a lot of torque from a dead stop and no noise. I don't think it is a matter of Americans accepting these types of vehicles I think it is more of over coming the technical issues and the overall life cycle cost of these vehicles.
