Years ago my grand father always said to me "watch out for the trolley cars," when ever I would leave his house. When he was a kid they were quite common were we lived. I think most were DC powered. Not sure why they fell out of favor. I did get to drive the GM EV about 15 years ago and it had a lot of torque from a dead stop and no noise. I don't think it is a matter of Americans accepting these types of vehicles I think it is more of over coming the technical issues and the overall life cycle cost of these vehicles.
Agreed. But you have to figure, right now 25000 US dollars gets you a pretty nice mid range electric vehicle if you do a little shopping and dickering. These are very well appointed cars and their gas price range equivalents don't drive near as nice. Just a matter of whether it fits into the lifestyle or not. Chevy will be coming out with their Bolt in the next 6 months. 200 mile range etc. Not as well appointed as a Nissan leaf and will be more expensive but they are all pretty much pre-sold for the year. There is a demand. Tesla pre-sold 400,000 cars in a week and they won't be on the street for another year to two years. Kinda cool.
