That 30 minute wait at the pump kind of tells the story that a US guy will go to great lengths to save a buck. The mfgs. of electric vehicles haven't been able to convey the message that their higher priced EV will save the consumer money. All buyers see is that a Tesla is for the wealthy and they drive back to the pump line. It is more a matter of perception than reality.
FWIW, a few years ago when GM was trying to build interest in the Volt, they had a lease plan that was very attractive. I've forgotten the exact terms but it was comparable to leasing any other mid-sized sedan. I haven't leased any of the fleet but was considering the Volt for a fleet upgrade for my commuting DW. Unfortunately, the timing was bad and I didn't pursue it. When we get ready to shop for her next vehicle, an EV will be on the top of the list.
