I use a regular water hose that you'd use for watering your garden. I've never had problems with contamination or bad taste. We keep a PUR water pitcher in the refrigerator for drinking water, so the hose does not matter to me .... but a GOOD sturdy stout hose does.
This last Spring I went to Lowe's (home center) and bought all new hoses. One is a 100 footer and the other is a 50 footer. They weren't cheap! They had the reinforced material through the hose, and the connections were heavy duty. I don't know what brand they were, all I really remember was ... I'm sick and tired of leaky, kinkey hoses and price did not matter any more!
FYI... I've not been disappointed. If you don't care they are not a white hose, go to a Home Depot type store and get them there, the heavy duty ones. By the way, better act fast. Most stores are already putting away Summer merchandise. Hoses are almost always the first things that disappear. Then those shelves are lined with plastic Santa Clauses!
