We towed our TT in norcal last year between Reno and the coast. Man, driving at 55 is SO painful. I don't like towing fast and I set our CC to 62-63 in Wa. & Or. but 55 seems so incredibly slow and then having to pull over periodically makes it seem like you are standing still. Good thing the scenery is so nice. We're going through the SF & San Jose area on the way to Monterey & Vegas this summer and am not looking forward to the all the traffic and maze of freeways towing a TT in the SF area.
What I found was crazy was when we were on long stretches of 2-lane roads and were following other slow traffic, then when we got to a passing lane on an uphill stretch, some young kids in small cars would do some seriously stupid passing maneuvers to get ahead and risk not only their life, also others around them. All you can do is give them lots of room.
We drove 299 from Redding to the coast and they were doing road construction. Some stupid driver tried to get ahead on a passing stretch but one lane was blocked by a slow moving truck that was part of the construction. He/she nearly hit the rear of the truck but the truck driver happened to notice the car coming up behind him and managed to move over onto the shoulder in time (with a steep drop-off too). That was a close one. Reminds me of this video clip.
