Help with Backing Up

Sorry, apparently I'm not allowed to post relevant content.
  • I tried to teach my wife to back up a trailer and we almost came to blows then my son took over instruting her and she learned how to do it from him with no issues. Go figure!
  • One possibility might possibly be switching places with her: have her back up and you act as a spotter. Maybe getting a feel for what the view is like from the driver's seat would help her better understand where to position herself and when and what to give directions about. Maybe some sort of a school or seminar on driving trailers would be even better, as it's a neutral party giving direction and instruction.

On a more general level, and I have no idea whether or not it's at all applicable to your specific situation, I really don't think it's worth introducing ill feelings into a marriage simply over backing up a trailer...so if there's starting to be resentment or hard feelings, I would think it's time to lovingly say, with a smile, that you'll take care of things and she doesn't need to concern herself in the least with directing (beyond perhaps being alert to yell stop before you ram into something). Then again, maybe that would cause more ruffled feathers. Relationships are tricky at times.
  • I was recently checking on wireless back up cameras and saw one that used a magnet to attach it. Sorry,I do not remember the brands. Seemed like a great idea to me. You could move it from the trailer to the back of your tow vehicle as needed. I am surprised someone has not come up with a way to mount one on one of those remote controlled spotlights on a lot of the utility vehicles I see in the area. It would be great to mount one high and just be able to move it around to whatever area you wanted to see.
  • Have your wife stand in FRONT. She can tell you far more there then in the back. Try it and see if that helps. By standing in front any other obstacle can be addressed.
  • Try a wireless back up camera. I think you and your wife will be happier!
