I helped a guy in a similar fashion... I always have an "e" bag in the truck. A volt meter, fuses, wire, butt connectors...
The tire wrapped around the axle.. Tore the brake wiring on the axle... Pulled the tire.. Patched the wire... And on his way.... He asked for my email.. I gave it to him... I just had a tire issue. On my Open Range passenger side there is heavy guage metal covers above the tires riveted in 3 places to the frame. The rear one apparently came loose, droping down on the tire and skinned it in seconds. The metal buckled up in layers over the tire. Only way to get it off and put on the spare was to cold chisel it off, somthing I don't carry. Called my Good Sam road side assistance, they were worthless saying they will send a tow truck if they can find one. A real good samaritan stopped and had a cold chisel, helped with the spare too. I was on the road soon, left a cnote on his drivers seat, he was a good guy. Adding cold chisel to the e kit.
Probably would have been a good contribution to the topic 11 years ago....
