Here's your sign...

Me: having lunch in our rig watching our next door neighbor in Dolphin class A pack up to leave (20 minutes after check-out time). Observe man disconnecting fresh water supply hose and, with bare hands, putting it about five feet down the stinky slinky to rinse out the sewer hose. I step outside - "Sir, is that your fresh water hose you're putting down the sewer hose?"

Him: "Probably."

Me: "You'll need to throw that away now to avoid serious infections."

Him: "Probably." He finishes packing up the sewer AND fresh water equipment with bare hands and stacks them on top of each other in a basement compartment. He climbs straight into the driver's seat, wipes his face face with his hands, starts the motor and pulls out. He then stops in the middle of the road for a few minutes and appears to be pushing every button in the cockpit before continuing on.

Here's your sign...

I take it you gloves and alcohol hazmat people have never had babies in the house. :)

One might contend that a week or two old multiple adult "stuff" might be a bit worse than what a baby makes. And then getting it on the steering wheel, clothes, etc...

We don't scrub, mask up, double glove, and wear gowns when we visit the CG dump. Just gloves, wash it all down, sanitize hands afterwards. You know, the kinda stuff your Mother teaches you to do ;)
  • Lets see how this works. Wear gloves to do the dumping duties. When finished take one glove off with a gloved hand. Take second glove off with what?

Oh well, whatever you are happy with.

Seem to real upset about him using his bare hands. Why?

I also use my bare hands, I don't wear gloves. I have found over the years that there is nothing on the OUTSIDE of the hose, and as I don't stick my hands inside the hose, There is no problems.

I have also found over the years. There is no need to rinse out the sewer hose with a garden hose. IF after I run 30 gal of fresh water thru it from the grey tank, It is not clean enough. squirting a little water from a garden hose will not get it any cleaner.

So I pack everything away, Wash my hands, and go.

    X2

When we got our first RV, I used to use gloves when I dumped the tanks but not anymore. I have never gotten any liquid or anything else on my hands while dumping the tanks. I keep a tube of the sanitary wet wipes in the back of my truck and wash my hands with them when finished. I also never wash my sewer hose. Dumping both my grey tanks gets anything solid out of the sewer hose.

    Same thing for me.
I'm a retired firefighter/EMT, so I'm well versed in infectious diseases. But there's no reason for Hazmat procedures, when dumping a black tank.
Just use proper hand washing, just like you would after using the toilet.

Just flush it with water from the grey tank and put it away. If your worried about anything, spray it with Lysol (or equivalent). Then wash your hands with soap and water or if not handy a good alcohol based sanitizer. Gloves optional

Well, the proper way to remove the gloves is to pull the first one off so that it's inside out, then use it to pull the second one off inside out, then tuck the one into the other and dispose of them.

With that, the way I see it is anything in my poop is already in me. The black tank is sealed and nothing else is getting in there before I dump it, so there's no reason to worry about some horrible infectious disease. Now, if I'm helping you dump your tank - I'm wearing hazmat.
  • I started using gloves, but after a few times, I knew I wasn't getting anything on my hands (to speak of), so I quit with the gloves and just wash afterwards.

Heck, I've probably picked my nose a time or two while Im dumping and Im still alive!

  • It sounds the way you say it as a bit extreme to me.

But, I'm not a germaphobic either. I would not do it the way he did.

Still, I don't wear gloves when dumping my tanks. I just wash my hands afterwards.

I don't use my freshwater hose to rinse out my drain hose. I just don't rinse it out. It gets rinsed out by my gray water that I dump last.

I wash my hands OFten with soap and hot water ! I don't smoke. I eat a balanced diet containing a little bit of everything.

I get sick less often that anyone else I know. I still do get sick, we all do. But, my lifestyle seems to work for me.

    Have a nice Day.
