My accident occurred on Sept 7th and my release from the hospital was (I believe) the 28th).
Many have mentioned that "someone" was looking out for me and I have the same feeling only I KNOW who it was. Charlotte was looking out for me just as she did all those years we were married. Not sure how but no doubt as to who or why.
On the good side of "not wearing a helmet", I have four grand children who ride (also with no helmet) and this seems to have made a huge impression on them. HOPEFULLY enough that they change their own habits and put on the "lid". That would make it all worthwhile and rather than being an enabeler I may turn into a better roll model for them.
I haven't decided if I will continue riding (probably depends on just how much I recover from the accident) but I do have to say I had many hours of enjoyment from riding the big bike.
The bike itself came through with lots of scratches and a few minor dents but otherwise unscathed. Another GOOD piece of safety equipment that I was missing was a good engine guard (highway bars). I believe if I had those installed I would not have been trapped under the bike and the burns would have been much less severe.
Thanks to everyone for the kind words and hope to be posting more often again soon.
I want to thank you for the above plainspoken description of the accident, and ESPECIALLY FOR your description of the benefit of highway bars. This is something that I've tried to convince my husband of, but it wasn't until I showed him your story that he finally agreed as to their usefulness.
Now we'll see if that means he actually puts a set on his bike or decides that the present lack is a good reason to buy the new BMW he's been pining for! :W
Levity aside, take care of yourself and we'll hope to see you back on the road soon.
