So sorry about the accident and glad you are on the mend. Wishing you many more years to enjoy life! My younger brother hit a deer when he was still a teenager. He was wearing a helmet because of a promise to mom. I can still remember the gouges in that helmet, and the horrific road rash on his back. He was wearing shorts, but no shirt. He recovered, but I still shudder when I think of that helmet. Buy a helmet, they are much easier to replace.
