Here in the Buffalo NY area they are everywhere.
Deer are starting to pop up within the city limits as
they are no longer afraid of people.
An affluent suburb is a major source of them, because the animal lovers refuse to allow any hunting or thinning of the deer population. In return, there is an overpopulation of the deer and some of them starve in winter. Once in a while a deer will lunge through someone's picture window because it saw a plant inside the house (food!).
We moved out to the country about 20 miles outside the city and I have actually seen LESS deer here than near the suburbs circling the city!
I have been lucky twice out here. Once two deer ran across a 55mph country road and I drove between them, one in front of me and then one behind me as I drove by! I didn't miss them due to any great evasive driving, just chance. The other time a deer walked into the road and my Mustang's mirror "punched it in the nose" as I drove by. The deer was last seen shaking its head wondering who slugged it. Both deer and car were OK.
