On our way to Ocean Lakes last night, we hit a deer about 6 miles away from the campground on 544. It came out of nowhere on the left and ran right in front of the drivers side front bumper of my wife's new 2013 Ford Explorer. All things considered we were lucky. It broke the front end on the side and caused a little rubbing when we turned the wheel. Made it to the campground ok. Called my insurance agency and they have the ball rolling. They sent me a list of auto repair places in the area to get a temp fix on the part rubbing the tire. Took it to Hall Auto Repair on hwy 17. About 3.5 miles down on the left heading towards garden city. They were able to pry it out and didn't charge anything. They were really nice and would recommend them for anything you need done. Luckily this is only gonna cost us $100 (deductible). Be careful out there at night. That stretch of road is dark and the trees sit close to the road.

During breeding season, traffic is not the first thing on their minds, and they're more active at night than during the day. BTW, a friend of mine's car was hit by a deer instead of the other way around. The deer ran into his front quarter panel. The insurance company said it was covered by comprehensive instead of collision so there was no deductible.

You need to follow up on this damage. My dad, several years ago, hit a huge dog. He was traveling to visit us at the time. Insurance paid for some minor bumper damage. Nothing serious. By the time he got home again he discovered that the unibody frame had been damaged. They were unable to align the front end. Major problems. He had to end up selling the vehicle because of the major damage. JMHO. Make sure you check the alignment of your vehicle.

Thanks T-10. We are actually going back home tomorrow (Sunday). We were only here for the weekend. We have our tt in storage here at ocean lakes and wanted to come check on it. The last time we were here it was raining and wanted to come back and check it out to make sure it's ok. We will be back for two weeks in June/July.

We are at Baldwin MI which is a big hunting and fishing area in Michigan. I heard comments today from some guys saying that they are seeing more deer now all over the place and hardly saw anything during hunting season. I saw 2 running right behind our RV when I came back from town. They are all over the place here too.

Hit two deer almost exactly a year apart, on the same road, at the same time of day, in the same small car. My insurance agent's response was "Next time you go deer hunting, take your truck. It'll sustain less damage."

Sorry to hear that you hit a deer... I hit one with my 2012 Dodge Challenger this past November doing about 70.... $5000.00 worth of damage and it was all cosmetic. Two weeks in the shop and looks brand new again...

Yep we are ok will. Trip is pretty good. Weather has been nice.

Jim Shoe... Our comprehensive is covering. We have a $100 deductible on comp.

WyoTraveler... They will have to replace the front and front left side fender. There's some other damage that they will have to fix. We are having the dealership fix it. We are persistent people. Lol

According to OP, this accident happened on 05/10/2013. Breeding season for deer is mid October to end of December. I agree Jim Shoe, "something else was on the deer's mind", but I guarentee this deer was NOT thinking about seasonal companionship.
