Hitch set up

The built in sway control on the truck is a system that is meant to respond to serious sway events, and correct them before you roll the truck down the highway. You will still want a WD hitch.

I know exactley what the sway control is. My question is about the WDH. Not using any sway set up. Thanks

I would run your Dual Cam without the cams. Just remove the cams and install the chains to the bars like a standard WD hitch.

On the built in sway control in the truck. I can tell you they work as designed! And is amazing! My wife's 13 Explorer has it built in and when towing my snowmobiles to northern WI (3 place trailer) a couple times it got a bit loose on some ice covered highway. You could feel and see the trailer start swaying, then you could feel the car brakes counteract it and stop the trailer sway. Very awesome system!

Technically with that trailer weight you can run without a WD hitch. But I'm with you, the improved security of the hitch is worth using weight distribution. I used to tow a 7,600 GVW travel trailer with a 2004 Chevy 2500HD. I was completely within receiver limits to tow without any WD, but the ride in the truck and the solid feel of the connection using a WD hitch was reassuring.

At 15% tongue weight your 6500lbs trailer could have up to 975lbs of tongue weight. If it were me I'd get at least 900lbs rated bars for your setup.

I got rid of my Reese setup when I sold my Toy hauler otherwise I would use it with out the cams and lighter bars. I'm towing with a 2019 1500 Silverado and I have always liked putting some weight on the front end. Handles much better

I recommend a WDH with integrated sway control, like Reese Strait Line or Equal-i-zer 4pt. What is the new truck?

I have a 2019 Silverado 1500. I really don't want or need the sway control,I just want to get a little weight on the front axle

Since you have to buy a new WDH anyway, why not buy one with built in sway control like those mentioned, or even a Fastway E2. They're pretty basic, but still provide some sway prevention, versus sway reaction that your truck provides. Just a thought.

No one needs a sway controller.............. till ya' do.
