For you guys that like to grease the ball,remember that it's a double edged sword. Yes it lowers resistance between the hitch and ball, but the grease is also an attractant for dirt, and there's a lot of it thrown up off the ground by the truck and the wind created between the two vehicles.
Personally, I have never used grease in the forty odd years of pulling trailers and have yet to see any damage from it. Just food for thought.
