Another amateur star-geezer here. I haul the old C8 to solo & club observing events. It also serves as a warming room for club members. I saw the supernova in M82 Sunday night from the pictured location... it's 12 million light years away.
Our club is pretty active. We're doing an outreach event tonight for a local middle school, expecting 100-150 students & parents. Should be fun but cold for this first one of the year. The telescope is a 20 year-old optical tube, a true 'bitsa'... bits of this and bits of that, but it works just fine, and is easy to transport and setup.
