Homeless - safe to store propane/gas in car while sleeping?

Hi, does anyone have advice? I am homeless, and live and sleep in my car. I want to buy a propane or gas camping stove burner so I can boil water to make spaghetti, etc. I am thinking of buying ...

I would either run propane and make sure they aren't leaking (I have never had one leak when shut off), or gas in MSR type bottles (they are able to be pressurized) that can't leak. We carried them all over the back country for years in all weather in the scouts without problems.
