Well, I'm officially homeless and out of work. I purchased a 24' Salem Cobra (1990) with the intention of going out west to Durango. Unfortunately, this fell through and I'm in limbo. Still in Mass and trying to figure out my next move.I'm loaded and ready to go, but I'm not sure where. I guess my question to you is this... if the job opportunities that I have fall through, do any of you know where there is inexpensive long-term campgrounds near gainful employment? I'm simply out of options here and it's getting cold!Not having the funds, I can't really drive around blindly and there are no campgrounds opens around here.Thankfully, I'm plugged in and warm, but this is not a solution. I'm just not feeling very brave lately. Thanks guys, I appreciate any advice

There is a whole group of retired folks and maybe non also that work amazon and such over the holidays. I think I read some get free camping but not sure.

Start calling to see if you work at a CG and get a price break for your site as partial pay. What about being a Food Service Technician (waitress) ? :) N.H. as well as Vt. have CG's that are open during the winter to cater to snowmobilers and skier's. The CG's use a heated central bath house . You would dry camp with no water in your TT but you will have electric. This might work for you in your cold climate if you happen to find something.Old Forge N.Y. and Lake Placid N.Y. both have winter CG's and seasonal winter work might very well be avl. google 'winter camping' in various states.

There should be a lot of seasonal jobs around for the holidays. There is a good blog about a young girl that full-times in her camper called (interstellar orchid) you might want to read, explains a lot.I would look at this as a opportunity to see the country and work-camp.

oh dear. not a good spot to be in. I would think you want to head where its warm. my thoughts are maybe there is work in the savannah Hilton head area cleaning up after hurricane. also with snow birds heading to florida I'm sure theres all sorts of food service, cleaning, and other service related jobs in florida. with Christmas coming all retail places are hiring. ive heard amazon is great for full timers. also ups hires seasonal help. all of these are temporary though.

I woul still look into amazon, I still saw them advertising recently. Always retail work around the holidays. Head south.

Good luck, Jim. When my time comes, this would be the ideal scenario for me -- to travel with mentors, at first. I'm also toying with the idea of teaming up with a roommate that would travel half-time. We would occupy my house alternately; one would be in residence while the other is on the road. I'm afraid I'll regret selling my house as I see many seniors abandoning the road for S&B again.

Thanks all! My biggest issue is going to be keeping the dog entertained. A young exuberant German Shorthaired Pointer. He's needs a ton of exercise , places to off leash run.i still can't get him to poo on the end of a leash. He's goes in the woods, period. Never even on or next to a path.
We did finally get a bit of hunting in. I feel really awful about the stress he's gone through these past few weeks.

No worries about supper with him around :)

What ever you do, do not give in to loneliness, despair or depression. They are your biggest enemy. Stay positive and find pleasure in solitude, enjoy nature and go for a good hike to ease the soul, read a good book, listen to your favorite music. Start planning your journey. You have a skill that can take you where ever you care to go. Get to a warmer climate sooner rather than later too.

Thanks, RockfishJim. I'd love to be back on the west coast. Eventually, but not this winter. Time will tell. Maybe I'll get inspired and set a course for due west.

Good luck Liza and Cheryl, once on the road you'll find its not so hard. I lived with my dad in an RV for almost a year while moving to greener pastures. I'm sure you'll run into good folks along the way, there are tons of great people in the RV community. If you were heading CA way I could be more help but I think you'll be fine on the wet coast ;)

I do know I am heading to the Q to meet up with some folk for a few weeks and it was suggested that I join up with one of the smaller groups that travel together until I get my feet under me so to speak. They will know where to go and camp, get water and groceries, etc.

Thank you all so much for your support and help. I'm grateful for the new found friendships here. Definitely makes me feel less alone.
I'm waiting to hear from a job in Okeechobee. Fingers crossed. If it comes to pass, I will pull out Saturday. Even if it doesn't, I still have to leave.
At least it's warm and I do have somewhat of a support system in FL. Thankfully my friends are down there.
Thank you for sharing your own story Cheryl, you're right it's a scary world on the road alone. I'm not mechanical either, so issues with the truck and trailer scare the piss out of me.
