Yes - inhaling gas fumes can kill you. Something about "bonds with red blood cells better than oxygen". I remember reading a story about a man in Japan, who was sleeping in a small compartment (on a train, I think) and he um, suffered from a bad case of flatulence and died in his sleep from breathing in too much methane.....
