Guess it depends on where you live. In the town I live in, $1k per month rent will get you a quite nice house, in a quite nice neighborhood. Heck, my rental, I charged $650 a month. 1400 sq ft, nice neighborhood.
Wife and I, plus my grandson I now raise - we spend maybe $700 per month on groceries.
$1000 for car, utilities and insurance is EASILY doable. Doesn't have to be a new car. Very nice used car.
So, yes, it is doable. If in that scenario, is there money to blow on frivolous things.. not necesarily. But you can still go out now and then for entertainment.
So yeah, Im in the same world as WRVPO. Yes, it would take both couples working full time, but both me and my wife did that and didn't complain in the slightest. If folks have the gumption there is opportunity.
