Honda Generator Won't Start????

Hi,
I have a Honda EU2000 generator and it will not start. I used it this weekend in a sandy location so I took the front access panel off and spray off the insides with a hose to get the sand out. I tried to start it up this morning and it would not start.

Apparently the hose must have been a bad idea, but I would think that any water would have been dried out by now and that it should start okay. I really hope I did not damage it.

Any recommendations / thoughts?

Thanks
Matt

  • After trying to dry out everything, try some "Seafoam" in the gas tank.It helps to get any remaining water out. Worked for me.
  • I had that problem one time. I just happened to check the oil and it was way low. As soon as I added oil it started right up. Honda's have a safety feature that if the oil gets too low, the engine shuts off or won't start. Check that out...
  • I think the first thing I would do is check to see if you have any spark at the spark plug,, pull the plug out and put wire back on with the plug touching metal,, should have spark when you turn it over. If you have spark, that would eliminate the electrical part. My grandson tried to start the weed eater the other day,, said it wouldn't start,, turns out,, he had the choke all the way on and had flooded it.Hopefully something simple on yours too. Good luck
  • Depending on where you hit it, there may be water in an electrical connection or most likely, some went through the carb and into the cylinder.
I would remove the spark plug, turn it over a few times and leave it open for a few hours to dry out.
I would also drain the fuel out of the carb and put it in a glass jar so you can see if there's water in it.
If you got the air cleaner wet then it will have to dry before enough air can get through it.
