Honda Odessy Van

Anyone flat towing a Honda Odessy van?
  • We've considered flat towing our 2006, but have stuck with a dolly for now since we have another Honda that can't be flat towed.
  • Great info. Thanks to all. Anyone know the last year the Touring model would be towable? Also, at some point the two rear rows of seats folded into a flat surface. What year did that start?
  • I have read of people towing Odysseys up to year 2012 successfully, but not the later Touring models as they and all 2013's have a new 6-speed tranmission that can't be towed. This is what I read online, so I can't personnally vouch for it. There is a Honda pre-towing procedure that must be followed which consists of starting the engine, running the transmission through all the gears, then from Drive (NOT Reverse) into Neutral, and let the engine idle for three minutes. Then you can shut the car off and tow it. You must repeat this procedure every so often. I think it may be every six hours.
  • We have flat towed our 2003 Honda Odyssey over 50,000 miles without problem (knock on wood). We do change the transmission fluid more frequently than recommended for normal driving just as a precaution depending upon how far we have towed it that year. We also stop and run it through the gears again after towing no more than 220 miles. That fits nicely into our rest break/change driver schedule anyway. We also don't drive over 70 miles per hour - normally between 55 & 65.
  • Yep, but it's a 2000 model. 1999 through 2004 were towable per Honda. I've seen a few later models being towed also.

  • A few years ago I talked to a may who was towing one. I told him that I had heard they could not be towed 4 down and his reply was that Honda said they couldn't but he was doing it anyway and had no problems.
