I disagree that it's always back to the parents. I've known parents who were the best and the kid is selfish, inconsiderate, etc. I've known the worst of parents who turned out great kids.
How you're raised is only part of it. But it is also about an individual's own psyche. Spoiled brats, narcissists, etc., aren't always created. Many times they are born like that.
And a parent who raises child A to be a great adult can also use the same exact approach on child B with disastrous results - because the kids connect to the world differently.
I've also known many older folks who were "good people" in their younger years but have become selfish and greedy and such in their later years because they have determined they now deserve it. They are just as bad as the "young generation" that gets so much blame (every generation).
