I worked for almost 33 years in Silicon Valley ... and a most of that time lived right in the same country home we still live in.
For what that's worth:
- A shotgun, rifle, and pistol range is a short drive from us.
- A well stocked country store where they know us by name is 2 miles from us.
- A couple of fishing reservoirs are each about 8-10 miles from us.
- A 100,000 acre state park is about 55 miles from us where I have special volunteer worker's vehicle access to it's remote and wild lake-filled backcountry areas open to the general public only via foot and bike access.
- A county park about 50 miles from us on a reservoir full of fish that has well-spaced hookup and drycamping sites under old oak trees only a few feet from the water.
- Property taxes that by law can raise from their base only a very small amount each year due to a statewide proposition passed years ago.
- The capability to volunteer to help out in a wide variety of ways in the local firefighter's and sheriff's detachments.
I was raised in Michigan and we have RV'd to many other states. I wouldn't trade California for any of them ... especially their narrow country roads with no shoulders, mosquitoes, summer humidity, winter snow, or little tiny parking spots.
BTW, I wonder why the names Kansas, Kentucky, Kalifornia, Kolorado, and Konnecticut all start with a "K"? :h
