I've got an 11 1/2 month old that I can bring to crying just by saying "no" and moving his hands from the drawer/cabinet/TV/aquarium/fork/knife/salt shaker/pepper/clothing/my food/etc. (no swat on the butt needed). He will still try to get at whatever he was just getting at while crying.
I'm a firm believer in butt swats when appropriate (my 9 year old has had her share). But, in my case, at least - it's just not going to be effective yet.
As I said before - my daughter was easy compared to this little he-man.
