For the budget minded a$4.00 or cheaper door latch is the way to go. I've lived both ways, when I was young I watched my pennies, when I was in my twenties if I had it I blew it, Now in my 30's I count my pennies again. I have not spent at least $3000 this year by doing things myself and finding the cheapest solution. I'm low on cash now but I will retain those penny pinching values when I get back on top. I was so cheap I used to burn waste motor oil in my 96 f250 7.3. can't do that with a 6.0 but I drive her easy
