Depending on who's statistics you look at, somewhere between 70%-80% of all accidents involving tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles, are the fault of the passenger vehicle. The majority of accidents that the semi is "at Fault", are backing accidents.
Lets just say 75%....
How many of them are rear-end accidents where the car driver claimed to be just minding their own business, when that big semi plowed them over? Of course, failing to mention that they cut in front of the truck, taking away the proper safe distance needed for stopping (which is why more and more dash board cameras are being used).
It happens. My wife lost a good friend a few years back when a distracted truck driver smashed into her minivan that was parked on a freeway in gridlock. Killed the friend's sister and her two young children as well. I've had plenty of my own encounters with what I'd consider unsafe truck drivers over the years as well. There are lots of good ones on the road, and in fact most are good, but plenty are bad too.
